John Madden Retires from 30-Year Broadcasting Career

April 16, 2009 - John Madden, the legendary sports broadcaster and Hall of Fame football coach, announced his retirement from broadcasting today - a career that spanned 30 years. John Madden is the most honored NFL broadcaster of all time; a winner of 16 Emmy Awards as an Outstanding Sports Analyst/Personality.
In a statement released by NBC Sports, Madden said: "It's time. I'm 73 years old. My 50th wedding anniversary is this fall. I have two great sons and their families and my five grandchildren are at an age now when they know when I'm home and, more importantly, when I'm not. It's been such a great ride. The NFL has been my life for more than 40 years, it has been my passion -- it still is."
The Madden NFL video game franchise has sold over 70 million copies worldwide, during its 20 year history. John's contribution has been instrumental in the ongoing success of the franchise and will continue to be into the future.

His prolific coaching and broadcasting careers, as well as his distinct role in shaping the EA SPORTS football experience have redefined how multiple generations have come to know and love the sport with unrivaled passion.
